An online community is being setup for HMQ owners to talk and collaborate on tweaks, hardware hacks, swarm techniques, WIFI tips and tricks, how to fly one, or how to fly many in a swarm.

What are you going to use your for?

Hacking? Adding new hardware to it like GPS or more RGB LEDS? Buying 9 of them and seeing how to fly them all in a swarm formation with assisted vision systems? The sky is the limit :-)

You can use any cellphone or tablet to control. Source code for Android, and Apple iOS devices is available, write your own UI controls and show it off in the Community.

  • What is the purpose of the Community?
    The Community will be a place to come a share visions, data, algorithms, code and knowledge. Community topics that will be started include Swarm coding on both the HMQ and the controlling PC by either using OpenCV or RoboRealm. Another interesting topic that will be brought to the Community will be GPS enabled autopilot and the ins and outs of that. Experts and hobbiests can gather and share code and ideas.
  • Who is behind this design?
    HackMyQuad teamed up with The Mind Factory to design and create this Quad. TMF has been in business designing and manufacturing electronics since 1989, they come highly recommended. You can visit them at www.themindfactory.com"
  • Can these Quads actually SWARM?
    Short answer is yes. Longer answer is, "Its up to you", your design can take advantage of the RGB LEDS onboard to differentiate what quad is what by visual camera recognition. Your main controller (PC) can issue commands to each HMQ seperately. In time the community will have all this available.
  • Are HackMyQuads available?
    Not currently but we expect to have them available April 10, 2014 Early adopters can visit the ORDER page and pledge their support.
  • Where is the online community?
    The online community will be launched at the same time the HMQ's become available.
  • How hack-able are they?
    Very. With all the resources given to you there is not one aspect you can not change. With the addition of the HackPort, all unused I/O is available, this includes raw I/O along with I2C and SPI interfaces. Add GPS, more LEDS, temperature sensors, IR avoidance sensors, and many others.
  • Does it have a camera?
    Not yet, there are many very small light weight video cameras on the market, the community will address this, stay tuned.
